Who Are We?

An extra, other set of eyes

Marnell Group is a consulting company that specializes in bridging gaps – getting to 'there' from here. We do it by listening, by asking questions, by observing, by calling on our own experience and through facilitation and mapping.

The saying, “There is always room for improvement,” applies equally to the individual and to the enterprise. But getting to that improvement, deciding what needs to be changed, finding out how things really work (as opposed to 'the myth' of the process) can be frustrating and confusing.

Business today, can be a technological marvel, with high-powered resources and tools for analysis and thought mapping that a few years ago would have been unimaginably complex and off-the-chart expensive. We're committed to leveraging this enhanced capability and reduced cost in providing services to our clients.

We listen, we make expert use of the tools best suited for the client setting. In business, technical and organizational analysis, we work with the client team to set direction, and identify what works as well as points of failure and barriers to change. And then we follow through to provide solutions and solidify consensus. We make things happen. We get things done. We're out to shine a modern light on out-of-date assumptions of costs, capability, reach and power.

Phil Marnell

Joining IBM seemed like the last thing Phil Marnell should be doing - to him anyway. But the synthesis of his musical training (Cincinnati Conservatory) and the computer business began to take shape fairly quickly. It led to a fascination with the human role in technological and business systems. Along the way he has worked for several 'Best of Breed' companies in different industries: IBM, SAP and YKK, as well as starting his own companies. Steadily, through experience his skills and thinking have migrated to higher and higher ground. He sees a 'bigger picture' now, and engages business principals and executives in thinking bigger about their organizations. He has a mixture of deep technical skills and solid communication skills that led one CIO to refer to him as, 'a people-oriented technologist.'

Pamela Buffington

Pamela Buffington has had quite a ride, from experiencing the 'joys' of being an entrepreneur starting her own companies, to the realm of corporate financial management. At every step of the way she has not shied away from breaking new ground with disruptive technology (not to mention gender issues) time and time again: She helped introduce manufacturing and accounting automation at Goodyear in Illinois; she led the project to introduce computerize accounting processes at a Quaker State affiliate in Atlanta. In the early 90's, she recongnized the power and benefit of electronic claims filing, and launched a company that was an early-adopter of the technology in the southeastern U.S. From that experience she went on to enter the field of medical practice management, marketing and consulting.
